LIFE DRAWINGS

After 20+ years of doing art and design I recently decided to learn how to draw in a traditional sense. It’s been a pretty steep learning curve so far, but I’m pleased with how I’m progressing. It’s very different from my usual approach to drawing, I have to frequently remind myself to look more and draw what’s actually there, rather than how I think things should look. But I have also noticed at times I can get in the zone and it just flows naturally, and that’s a really good feeling.

I’ve been working my way through the exercises in Bert Dodson’s seminal ‘Keys to Drawing’ book, which are very instructive and challenging. And supplementing this with life drawing classes once or twice a week which I’ve really started to look forward to. If you’ve never tried one I would definitely recommend it.

I have a long way to go in terms of skill but I can already see the progression from where I was a month ago, so I’m excited to discover where I’ll be at this time next year.
